Fresh new plot details about ‘Peaky Blinders’ Season 5 have been released
02 February 2018

The fourth bloody season of BBC crime drama Peaky Blinders came to a violent end in December - but things are looking up for the Shelby clan: they’ve disposed of two prominent enemies and Tommy has bagged himself a position as the Labour MP for Birmingham South.

And the next season will see Tommy (played by Cillian Murphy) and the rest of the gang getting used to this new-found political power. Paul Anderson (who plays Arthur Shelby) has provided some fresh new details about how his character will develop in Season 5. He told Metro.co.uk: “Arthur’s not gonna be a politician. He’s got political ties now, let’s put it that way. But you won’t see him at no rallies or in Parliament.

“What it gives Arthur and his family is more power. Tommy is in a position of power, and he can only get stronger in that position.

“So we’ll all have more cover, we’ll have more opportunity, and more protection. And by protection I mean by society and the police and so on. We’ll be able to get away with things under the guise of, ‘we’re politicians, we’re respectable’. But we’ll be able to manipulate things more. Arthur will be even more Arthur. So it will be a lot of fun.”

It sounds like the notorious Shelby clan will be only be getting bolder as they attempt to consolidate their power next season. But their luck’s going to run out eventually, surely?!

What else do we know about Season 5?

  • On 20 December last year, BBC Two announced that the next season will be airing in 2019.
  • Game of Thrones’ Aidan Gillen (Aberama Gold) has been confirmed.
  • There’s no news yet on whether Tom Hardy (Alfie Solomons) will be making a comeback, but he seemed pretty much dead at the end of Season 4.

And it’s previously been reported that a Peaky Blinders movie could be in the works. Executive producer Caryn Mandabach spoke to Digital Spy with the interesting news: “We did have a conversation about potentially doing a movie. There are many people in America that love Peaky Blinders and plenty of movie stars that want to be in the movie.

“We heard Julia Roberts wants to do it - but this is hearsay… I don’t really know for sure.”
