Derren Brown is coming to Netflix with a mind-blowing new show
24 January 2018

Supernaturally clever person Derren Brown, the magic-est man in all the land, an unearthly creature who will only ever die when he is burned at the stake, is headed to Netflix.

They’re picking up a few of his older specials, but also a brand new one which he just finished working on yesterday.

What’s going to be on there then?

The Push (To The Edge), which was called Pushed To the Edge when it was on telly - not sure what’s happened there - looks at the pressures of social conformity, as Brown contrives a situation to push an unsuspecting person to commit murder. It was first shown on Channel 4 in 2016 and is fuuuucked uuuuuuup. This’ll be available from february 27th.

Miracle is the filmed version of his 2015-2016 stage show, in which he both debunks and, er, does faith healing. It’s fuuuuuuuuucked uuuuuuuuuuuup.

Most excitingly, some sort ofnew one, described only as being “daring” and “jaw-dropping”. He’s been performing in the US a lot over the past year or so, and this new one is likely to be a big-ass “America, embrace Derren Brown, he is great” kind of thing. That could go in any direction though - his live shows are fantastic, his psychological experiments are fascinating and haunting, and because of his magic powers, he could probably convince you that an hour-long show of him just staring down the lens of the camera was solid gold entertainment.

This Netflix deal was probably the result of a meeting, because most things like this are the results of meetings, and there’s every chance that, on the morning of the meeting, the Netflix executive glanced out of his or her car and saw, maybe:

  • a minty, yoghurty sauce from India
  • Jaromir Bohačík, who is 6’9” and plays for ČEZ Basketball Nymburk
  • a shallow river crossing
  • a supermodel with the surname O’Connor
  • various shades of tan, taupe, burnt umber and chestnut

That’s what he does, Derren Brown, he’s clever. And then, subconsciously, it all joined together in the executive’s head. Raita / big Czech / ford / Erin / brown. Raita / big Czech / ford / Erin / brown. Raita / big Czech / ford / Erin / brown. Write a big cheque for Derren Brown.

Then they wrote a big cheque for Derren Brown, who said “Oh, what a lovely surprise” and nodded sideways, smiling, at the camera.

Magic.
