It looks like it’s time we all accepted that after a 14-year absence, Friends, probably the most repeated sitcom in the history of televisual laughing, is unlikely to return with new episodes, according to Courteney Cox

Friends has been off the air for 14 years now, and hey, might be best to leave it like that, eh? Had a nice ending, wrapped everything up nicely, let’s leave it be.

BUT NO.

Fans are relentless in their quest to bring it back - “When’s it returning?” “We want more Ross!” “I like the lady that says the silly things with the guitar!” they shout. And this screeching only adds fuel to the rumour fire, with each and every cast member being asked constantly in interviews about the future of the dead show, that’s dead, the dead one, Friends is dead.

And maybe now, finally, Courteney Cox (who played Monica, famous for having her weight well-and-truly rinsed in entirely problematic episode ‘The One with All the Thanksgivings’) has come out and put her foot down. She told People (the magazine, not just a bunch of people in the street or something):

“People ask us all the time, ‘Will we ever do a remake?’ That was a story about these group of people that are friends in their 30s who are finding themselves. I don’t know if there’s a way to redo it.

“I just don’t see it happening. Even though I would do anything to be in a room with all of those people acting and having a great time. But I don’t see it happening.”

One of the most famous ‘Friends’ moments almost never happened

Jennifer Aniston had previously mentioned in a previous interview to Instyle:

“Courteney and Lisa and I talk about it. I fantasise about it. It really was the greatest job I ever had. I don’t know what it would look like today, but you never know. So many shows are being successfully rebooted.

“I know Matt LeBlanc doesn’t want to be asked that question anymore. But maybe we could talk him into it.”

But it looks like Courteney’s with Matt on this one, and for good reason, too - LET THINGS LIE, EVERYONE. LET. THINGS. LIE.

If that’s a difficult ask, then have a go at our Friends quiz - it’s the closest you’ll get to a fresh Friends-related experience:
