Clarkson, Hammond & May's new show finally has a name

And it's not Gear Knobs

Clarkson, Hammond & May's new show finally has a name

This is great news, if only for the fact that we'll finally be able to stop writing 'Clarkson, Hammond and May's new Amazon Prime show' every single time we refer to it.

Clarkson, Hammond and May's new Amazon Prime show has a new name.

And it is: The Grand Tour.

Why, we hear you scream?

Clarkson explained in a statement

“Thing is, we’ll be travelling the world hosting each episode in a different country, from a giant tent. It’s a sort of ‘grand tour’, if you like. So we’ve decided to call it The Grand Tour.”

James May said he was didn't agree with the name. “I wanted to call it ‘Nigel’, or ‘Roger’,” he said. “We needed a name, and they’re names.”

Meanwhile, Richard Hammond added, “I already love camping. But this is something else. We are like our pioneering and prospecting forebears, sallying forth into a new frontier of broadcasting."

The trio also thanked viewers for sending it their own suggestions, which they said were "much appreciated."

Clarkson had previously written in The Sunday Times about the difficulty of choosing a name for the show.

"There was one problem, however, that I hadn't even considered. And it has turned out to be the biggest of the lot: Choosing a name. I spend at least six hours a day in my office — which is insured and smoke-free and resplendent with potted plants — sucking creatively on a corporate Biro as I wait for the daily 3pm 'Anything yet?' phone call from Amazon in Los Angeles."

Tickets to see the new shows are likely to be awarded to Amazon customers, who will enter prize draws to claim their spots this summer. Details of locations and ticket application procedures will be announced soon.

They also unveiled the new Facebook page (genre: General Chaos) for the program, which features a short video revealing some of the names that didn't make the cut, including Tripod, A Small Puddle of Excellence, The Clarkson, Hammond and May Show on Amazon (we've been through this guys) and Ace Biscuits.

The new show will debut on Amazon Prime this Autumn, and it's still not known whether all 12 episodes in the initial series will be available at one time, or whether a more traditional week-by-week release will happen instead.

Meanwhile, the BBC's revamped Top Gear is due to launch on 29 May. Your move Mr Evans...
