Why Cersei and Bronn can never be in the same scene in 'Game of Thrones'
29 August 2017

The Game of Thrones Season 7 finale gave us so many reunions in such a short space of time that one little detail might have easily slipped under the radar.

We saw The Hound and Brienne talking about Arya as if she were their strange, murderous child, we got to see Bronn and Tyrion reunited properly – Tyrion and Podrick too – and that’s before we even get to the Clegane brothers. Cleganebowl is coming in Season 8, get hype.

Bronn and Pod also had a chance to enjoy a little chat, and of course it only took Bronn 0.046 seconds to bring up Podrick’s ‘magic cock’ – but then they decided to slip off for a drink and real catch up, rather than join everyone for the extremely important meeting at the Dragonpit.

Seems a bit weird, no? Especially since Bronn is essentially now Jaime’s right-hand man, and also a very capable fighter, should it all go tits up. This isn’t really the moment for pints with the lads, is it?

However, there is a very good reason why they had to slink off – and it’s nothing to do with the show itself.

See, way back in the early ‘00s, Jerome Flynn (Bronn) and Lena Headey (Cersei) used to date, and they reportedly had quite a messy break-up, to the point that they are now kept apart on set at all costs. There are even rumours that this is part of their contracts.

“Jerome and Lena aren’t on speaking terms any more and they are never in the same room at the same time,” a member of the crew told The Telegraph back in 2014. “It’s a pity because they appeared to have patched things up for a while, but now the word is they should be kept apart at all costs.”

Kind of awkward, since Bronn obviously spends so much time with Jaime, and Jaime spends so much time with Cersei, but the show has done a great job keeping them separate until now, and not having us question why.

However, with Jaime riding north to help in the fight against the dead, who will Bronn answer to if he remains behind? Perhaps he will join Jaime on his journey north, otherwise the showrunners might have to find another creative solution to keeping him away from the Queen.

Hey, maybe he and Pod could just spend all of Season 8 getting drunk? I’d happily watch that, to be honest.
