BBC Characters Could Star In UK Theme Park

Who fancies a ride on the Sherlock Shuttle? Or maybe go for a spin on the Dr Who Dipper? You might just get a chance, if a new deal signed by the BBC and a property developer is anything to go by.

The Guardian reports that BBC Worldwide and London Resort Company Holdings have signed a deal that could see the broadcaster's intellectual property and characters appear in a £2bn theme park and resort to planned to be constructed in north Kent.

Backed by Paramount Pictures, the London Paramount Entertainment Resort (catchy) promises to "combine the glamour of Hollywood with the best of British culture". We can practically hear the remixed Dr Who music pumping through the McDonald's.

London Resort Company Holdings has suggested that the deal with the BBC is the first step towards a formal sponsored_longform between the corporation and the resort, which is scheduled to open in the spring of 2020 on Kent's Swanscombe Peninsula. The park will include 12 major rides, with 50 rides in total, in addition to "signature entertainment shows and cultural events".

Titles we imagine would feature their own 'zones' could include Sherlock, Dr Who, Top GearMerlin and EastEnders. "We’re always looking for opportunities to extend fans’ enjoyment of their favourite shows," said Stephen Davies, director of live events at BBC Worldwide. "The idea behind this resort is a really exciting way of celebrating the very special place the BBC has in British culture."

Fingers crossed there's a brutally dull Radio 4 coffee shop to hide from the selfie stick tourists.
