Barack Obama is getting his own show on Netflix – this is not a drill

Keeping Up With The Obamas?

Barack Obama is getting his own show on Netflix – this is not a drill
09 March 2018

It’s been a long, hard, cold, miserable year since Barack Obama left the White House. It turns out that, whatever his faults, we really shouldn’t have complained about him as much as we did because now he’s gone (and we’ve lived through a year of his replacement) we really, really miss him.

And Barack didn’t seem to be too upset by the turmoil engulfing America. Remember those pics of Obama larking about with Richard Branson? I’ve never seem him so happy!

But the Obamas are now making a triumphant return to the public stage with their own TV show on Netflix.

According to the New York Times, the proposed deal would see Netflix pay the Obamas, who are both currently writing highly anticipated memoirs, for exclusive content on their streaming service.

The final show format hasn’t been confirmed (nor has the amount of money they’ve been offered) but one potential idea is Barack moderating conversations on topics that were important during his presidency such as health care, immigration and climate change.

Meanwhile, Michelle is expected to pick up on issues she championed in the White House like nutrition.

While we’re really excited to see the Obamas again, we have to be honest, these ideas sound a little… dry. But fear not, we’ve come up with a few ideas to help them get started:

1. House of Cards: Return of the Obamas (This time it’s personal)

2. Barack vs Donald: Ultimate Fighter

3. Grace and Frankie and Michelle

“President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire,” Eric Schultz, a senior adviser to the former president said Thursday.

“Throughout their lives, they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better. As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories.”

And Netflix aren’t the only streaming services who’ve been eyeing up the former first couple; Apple and Amazon have reportedly expressed interest in forming their own content deals.

This potential deal marks a welcome return for the Obamas, who have largely stayed out of the spotlight since leaving the White House in 2017. Barack did, however, sit down for a chat with David Letterman on his new Netflix chat show, which you can still watch here.

And people have been sharing their thoughts on the proposed partnership on Twitter:
