Bafta has revealed the six biggest 'must-see moments' of 2017's TV
03 April 2018
BAFTA has announced the six 2017 TV moments up for nomination in the ‘Virgin TV Must See Moment’ category – and they range from Ariana Grande’s emotional Manchester performance to a tragic Blue Planet death and much more.

It’s the only category voted for by members of the public.

Here’s the full list of what you shouldn’t have missed:

1. Blue Planet’s grieving whale

Blue Planet fans were heartbroken when they watched a mother pilot whale grieving for her baby, who died from drinking polluted milk.

The food chain had been contaminated by the eight million tonnes of plastic dumped into the sea every year – putting “a vast number of creatures in danger” according to narrator Sir David Attenborough.

And we cried. Oh, boy, did we cry.

2. Stormzy on Love Island

As if we couldn’t love Love Island any more than we already do, along comes Stormzy to make it even better.

The grime star appeared on the show to help the boys with a rap they were writing. Of course, Kem and Chris would eventually release their very own grime track, ’Little Bit Leave It’ which reached the heady heights of number 15 on the UK singles chart.

3. Jodie Whittaker revealed as the 13th Doctor

Obviously there were a few whiny crybabies annoyed that the new Doctor was a woman  – but on the whole, fans were thrilled that Broadchurch actress Jodie Whittaker would be taking up the Timelord’s mantle.

She’s the first woman to play the Doctor since the show’s inception in 1963.

4. Ariana Grande performing ‘One Last Time’ at One Love Manchester

The whole of Ariana Grande’s One Love Manchester concert – in aid of the victims of the bombing that took place at an earlier Grande concert in May 2017 – was emotional.

But her performance of ‘One Last Time’ was the apex – a heartrending moment.

5. Viserion is killed by the Night King in Game Of Thrones

I haven’t tried it, but I’d imagine that killing a dragon must be pretty difficult. Props to The Night King for killing a dragon, I guess!

6. Line of Duty chainsaw scene

We were all on the edge of our seats when DCI Roz Huntley woke up with her colleague looming above her wielding a chainsaw, apparently about to chop her up – a cliffhanger moment Bafta has selected as one of its top moments of the year.

(She didn’t get chopped up lads, it’s fine).
