12 Monkeys heading to TV

Giving Bruce Willis a bit more credibility and Brad Pitt an Oscar nomination, 12 Monkeys was one of the most inventive and intriguing sci-fi movies of the 90s and stood a million miles ahead of other genre films of the time.

Following in the footsteps of Hannibal, Bates Motel and the upcoming Fargo series, Terry Gilliam's dystopian time travel tale is heading to the small screen.

Travis Fickett and Terry Matalas, the writers of Steven Spielberg's cancelled adventure show Terra Nova, are writing the pilot with 24 director Jon Cassar at the helm.

The film followed the story of a convict sent back in time to discover how a disease ended up ravaging the planet.

A 90-minute pilot, produced by Chuck Roven and Richard Suckle who were also involved in the film, is currently being planned for the Syfy channel in the US.
