Dortmund fans offer up beds for Monaco supporters after postponed match
12 April 2017

Twitter, it’s all abuse, trolling, humblebragging and outrage isn’t it?

Well, yes, it’s all of those things, but occasionally it does have a rather more positive side, as evidenced by the many wonderful gestures that came in the wake of the three explosive devices which were detonated next to the Borussia Dortmund team bus, ahead of their Champions League quarter-final against AS Monaco.

Fans were already assembled in the stadium when news came through of the attack, 90 minutes before kick-off, and Monaco fans immediately showed their support for their opposition as news filtered through, chanting ‘Dortmund’ in the stands.

The match was soon postponed until the following day, and Dortmund wasted no time in using their Twitter account to urge fans to offer up accommodation to Monaco fans who would now have to stay overnight to watch the game, using the hashtag #bedforawayfans.

Within minutes, there were offers coming in on Twitter.

And before long, happy images of rival fans enjoying a night together started to come through.

The rearranged match will take place today (Wednesday) with a 17:45 BST kick-off, with Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke saying that, "In such a crisis situation, all of Borussia will pull together. The team and coaches were shocked. Now we must channel it in some way."

One player, Spanish international Marc Bartra, was injured in the attack, with Dortmund saying that he had an operation on Tuesday after "breaking the radial bone in his arm and getting bits of debris lodged in his hand".

Watzke said: "I have to express a huge compliment to our fans, who have dealt with it very well, objectively, reasonably and solidly. It will not be easy to get that out of the mind. I think the team will feel it on Wednesday."

We’re sure that, once again, fans of both sides will come together to make a great atmosphere.
