Snyder to helm Man of Steel

Watchmen and 300 director to take the chair

Snyder to helm Man of Steel

Director Zack Snyder, the man behind Watchmen and 2007 shoutfest 300, will be hollering "action" and "cut" at regular intervals while sitting in a lovely chair with his name on the back, when he takes charge of the new Superman movie, Man of Steel.

Since it was announced that Dark Knight filmmaker Christopher Nolan wouldn't direct the reboot of the Superman series - preferring instead to oversee the project - the blogosphere had worked itself into a right tizz trying to predict who would helm the movie.

Darren Aronofsky, Ben Affleck and Tony Scott were all mentioned as candidates, but Nolan has plumped for the energetic Snyder, owner of arguably the squarest jaw in Hollywood.

Brandon Routh, who played Superman in the last attempt at reinvigorating the alter ego of Clark Kent’s mild-mannered reporter, will not return.

Man of Steel is expected to hit cinema screens sometime in 2012.
