ShortList up for Bafta (jury)

ShortList up for Bafta (jury)

ShortList up for Bafta (jury)
03 December 2012

No one likes jury service. It's tedious, long-winded and at the end it doesn't matter who broke the greenhouse window. At least, that's often the case. When you're invited to be on a Bafta jury, it's another matter entirely.

For the second year running we were part of a select group (including Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Kermode and Empire's Chris Hewitt) asked to select the shortlist for the EE Rising Star Award, the winner of which will then be voted for be the public.

Last year the public chose Anuvahood auteur Adam Deacon, who beat warring Avengers Assemble brothers Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. Previous winners also include Shia LeBeouf and Tom Hardy.

The shortlist itself is currently secret even from the jury members who debated a longlist for more than three hours before each casting a secret ballot for their five favourites. It will be announced in January, when voting will commence in earnest to fill the gap left in our lives now I'm A Celebrity has finished for another year.
