The season four trailer for ‘Better Call Saul’ is finally here – and things are getting dark
20 July 2018

After showing some admirable patience, fans of Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul have finally been rewarded with a full, explosive trailer for the fourth season – and things are getting really dark.

The show returns next month and picks up after Jimmy McGill’s (Bob Odenkirk) brother Chuck (Michael McKean) killed himself at the end of season three.

In the new, dark trailer, Jimmy is seen at his brother’s funeral and begins his scheming to get his law licence back. The gloomy visuals and tone of the trailer alone tell us that the next season is going to be heading down an even darker path.

And as Digital Spy points out, Breaking Bad alums Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks), Lydia Rodarte-Quayle (Laura Fraser), Leonel and Marco Salamanca aka The Cousins (Luis and Daniel Moncada) and Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) all turn up along the way.

The trailer was released at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, where the cast of Breaking Bad reunited for the show’s 10th anniversary.

It was earlier revealed that while the first three seasons have steered clear of the specific Breaking Bad timeframe, focusing instead on events before and after, season four will be bringing them together for the first time.

“We have a subplot that very squarely gets into Breaking Bad territory and brings us into the world — or at least points us on a path toward the world of Walter White and the territory of Walter White,” Gilligan, the creator of Breaking Bad and co-creator of Better Call Saul, told Entertainment Weekly.

The official synopsis reads:

“In Better Call Saul‘s fourth season, Chuck’s death catalyses Jimmy McGill’s transformation into Saul Goodman. In the wake of his loss, Jimmy takes steps into the criminal world that will put his future as a lawyer — and his relationship with Kim — in jeopardy. Chuck’s death deeply affects former colleagues Howard (Patrick Fabian) and Kim as well, putting the two of them once again on opposite sides of a battle sparked by the Brothers McGill.”

The fourth season of Better Call Saul will air from 6 August on American network AMC, with the first episode coming to UK Netflix the following day.
