One of this year’s most positive music stories was Mike Skinner’s announcement that he would release new material with The Streets.

Tickets for the comeback tour sold out almost instantly, leaving a lot of people disappointed, their hope snatched away almost as quickly as it appeared.

In the weeks since, we’ve had to make up for that disappointment by looking back at The Streets’ singles, changing and rechanging our definitive rankings.

If we wanted something relatively fresh, our only option was to delve into the long back catalogue of rarities, due to the lack of any new material.

Until now.

Skinner has recognised how exhausting and confusing this year has been for us, and decided to make sure we end it on a high.

He has unveiled two new songs, ‘Burn Bridges’ and ‘Sometimes I Hate My Friends More Than My Enemies’, just in time for Christmas.

You can listen to them both here, because we’re good to you like that.

It is the first new material from The Streets since 2011 album Computers and Blues, with the last live performance coming the same year.

The upcoming 2018 tour will comprise dates across Europe, including performances in Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris and Dublin.

The Streets’ UK dates include a homecoming gig in Skinner’s hometown of Birmingham on April 19, before moving on to Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds and London.
