The ShortListen: Weaves (no. 304)

Scuzzy indie excellence from Toronto quartet

The ShortListen: Weaves (no. 304)
03 May 2016

Who? Weaves

What’s the story? We're all a bit bleary-eyed today after the excesses of a much-needed bank holiday weekend - and you can times that by a thousand if you happen to live in the Leicester area - so here's a welcome bit of scuzzy indie goodness to rouse you back to normality. Weaves are a Toronto-based quartet who announced themselves to the world via a well-received 2014 EP. Two years on, and a whole lot of touring later, they're readying their self-titled debut, due out in June. One More is their latest track and the excellently-fun video was filmed by guitarist Morgan Waters as the band were embarking on a US tour, capturing their first experience of the US Southwest and starring singer Jasmyn Burke as a "disgruntled cheerleader". Musically, it's high NRG indie-punk with some seriously nifty bass playing - just the thing to get you going for the week ahead.

For fans of: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Alabama Shakes, The Gossip

In three words: Get yourself going
