The ShortListen: Walking On Cars (no. 277)

The next massive Irish band?

The ShortListen: Walking On Cars (no. 277)
21 March 2016

Who? Walking On Cars

What’s the story? Ireland has produced a couple of big middle-of-the-road acts in recent years, with The Script and Kodaline dominating the airwaves with resistance-is-futile big-hearted indie rock. Next in line - although a far more interesting proposition - is Dingle-based act Walking on Cars who already boast a number one album in Ireland and are now receiving their British launch, with Speeding Cars (they like cars this lot) leading the way (it's currently nestled at no. 62 on the iTunes chart, ready to strike). It's unashamedly stadium-ready - and singer Patrick Sheehy sounds weirdly like Charlie Simpson - but there's something a little darker and restrained about it which really appeals - and above all, there's just a load of big pop hooks in there.

For fans of: Coldplay, Kodaline, Snow Patrol

In three words: Stadium-ready indie
