The ShortListen: The Japanese House (no. 190)

Blissful dreampop from hotly-tipped newcomer

The ShortListen: The Japanese House (no. 190)
02 November 2015

Who? The Japanese House

What’s the story? A second track from the forthcoming second EP (entitled Clean) by The Japanese House - aka 19-year-old Amber Bain, and it showcases a more strident side to her talents. She's working with the 1975's frontman Matthew Healy and drummer George Daniel, and their influence is far clearer on this track than on previous ones, with lovely chiming and rhythmic guitar work and some nicely sparse, yet impactful drumming. Vocally, Bain lets go a little more than on previous tracks, both in terms of performance and lyrics ("I know she loves me through thick and thin"); this is all rather beautiful.

In three words: Blissful dream pop
