Australian artist unveils stunning new single

The ShortListen: Ry X (no. 285)
05 April 2016

Who? Ry X

What’s the story? Australian artist Ry X has certainly taken the scenic route to releasing his debut album proper, with his 2013 EP Berlin gaining huge attention, before he quickly turned his attention to side project The Acid. Now that their own debut album - Liminal, released in 2014 - has been and gone, he now readies the release of his own record, Dawn, which is slated to come out on 6 May. We're delighted to be premiering the second new track from it, Deliverance, which once again is dominated by Ry's truly distinctive, haunting vocals. The backing is perfect, building from sparse piano, before pulsing electronic features come in to build to a euphoric ending. There's definite echoes of John Hopkins' work with Coldplay on the brilliant Midnight - particularly in the way it teases a 'lasers-out' finish before drawing beautifully back into its shell. The album could be something very special indeed.

For fans of: John Hopkins, Coldplay, The Acid

In three words: Restrained electronic gloriousness
