The ShortListen: Prose (no. 186)

The best new music around

The ShortListen: Prose (no. 186)
27 October 2015

Who? Prose

What’s the story: There's been some really good stuff coming out of Manchester in the last 12 months, and the trend continues with new three-piece Prose. The shadow of the Gallagher brothers has long loomed large over new acts from the area, but it seems like there's finally enough distance for bands to be influenced by them without simply ripping them off. Frontman Mike Murray has more than a touch of the Liams, with a direct, clear, honest vocal which rings out nicely throughout - but there's also elements of Plan B, Ed Sheeran and even The Streets, with a shuffling breakbeat and a rap middle eight. It all works rather well; Sheeran meets Oasis? It could well be big.

For fans of: Oasis, The Streets, Plan B

In three words: More Promising Mancs
