The ShortListen: New Atlas (no. 296)

Sweeping emotional indie from new Northern Irish band

The ShortListen: New Atlas (no. 296)
20 April 2016

Who? New Atlas

What’s the story? If there's one thing that unites great singers, it's that they have total integrity. Like they're singing as though their lives depended on telling their stories to us, the audience. And 19-year-old Northern Irish singer Eoghan O’Hagan could be the next to add to that list, at least on the strength of this barnstorming title track from his act New Atlas' debut EP Young Hearts. Immediately locking into a groove, O'Hagan demonstrates his softer side on the verses, before launching into a truly euphoric chorus. Weirdly, it's not unlike Damien Rice fronting an early nineties indie band. However you describe it though, it's a truly brilliant song.

For fans of: The 1975, Mega City Four, Jeff Buckley

In three words: Sweeping emotional indie
