The ShortListen: Mutemath (no. 193)

New Orleans band return with electronic indie excellence

The ShortListen: Mutemath (no. 193)
05 November 2015

Who? Mutemath

What’s the story? Mutemath are one of those bands who you just desperately want to see do well. The New Orleans four piece have produced consistent quality since 2006's self-titled debut, but never quite got the recognition they deserve. Hopefully fourth longplayer Vitals will change that, and on the strength of these two songs taken from it, they stand every chance. Joy Rides is a straight up slab of funky electro indie - almost like a classier Maroon 5 - but it's Remain which is arguably more impressive, a truly beautiful track evocative of M83, Sigur Ros and a touch of Foals thrown in for good measure. They tour the UK in January and we highly recommend it. Wouldn't it be good if the nice guys won for once?

For fans of: M83, St. Lucia, Maroon 5

In three words: Widescreen chiming indie
