The ShortListen: Honne (no. 207)

More excellent nu-R&B from the West Country duo

The ShortListen: Honne (no. 207)
26 November 2015

Who? Honne

What’s the story? We first featured this West Country-raised, Bow-based duo back in July 2014 and since then they've done nothing but impress us. Moving from their slow jam, nu-R&B beginnings, they've developed an unmistakable sound whilst also exploring other tempos and styles. That signature slapback vocal sound is present and correct on this new track - the lead song from a new EP due in January - with a jazzy, minimal verse, but it's in the chorus where the song really comes alive, kicking into a glorious soulful hook. This is their most expansive, commercial track to date and if we were a betting title (well, we are, and we won on Benjamin Clementine in the Mercurys), we'd be backing these guys to be on a good few Sound of 2016 polls in the coming weeks.

For fans of: Hall & Oates, Bill Withers, Jack Garratt

In three words: Soulful classy excellence
