The ShortListen: Broods (no. 284)

First track from Kiwi synth duo's second labum

The ShortListen: Broods (no. 284)
04 April 2016

Who? Broods

What’s the story? New Zealand brother-sister duo Georgia and Caleb Nott, aka Broods, were hotly-tipped when they emerged at the start of 2014, in the slipstream of fellow Kiwi Lorde, and enlisting the help of her hugely talented co-writer Joel Little. However, despite warm critical praise, they never quite went massive outside Australasia, with 2014's debut album Evergreen peaking at 45 in the US and not making a dent in the UK. Now, they return with the first track from their upcoming second record and it's clear they're looking to refine and perfect their sound rather than change to anything radically different. Little is on board again for this song, which features a daring a capella intro, a stylish verse and a classic melodic chorus. Throughout, it's icy synthpop all the way, with Eurythmics and, particularly, Chvrches clearly big influences - and that's all good with us.

For fans of: Eurythmics, Chvrches, Halsey

In three words: Icy electronic comeback
