The Offspring's Ultimate Playlist

The Offspring's Ultimate Playlist

The Offspring's Ultimate Playlist
07 April 2014

The Offspring are legends of the punk rock game, initially breaking through into the mainstream with 1994's worldwide smash hit album entitled - appropriately enough - Smash.

Six equally successful albums have followed since to establish their place at rock's top table; the last being Days Gone By, released in 2012.

To celebrate their forthcoming appearance at this summer's Download festival, we caught up with guitarist Noodles to discover the band's Ultimate Playlist. Read and listen on for a succession of great tunes and the stories behind the selections.

The Offspring will be playing Download festival this June alongside headliners Aerosmith, Avenged Sevenfold and Linkin Park, for more information visit www.downloadfestival.co.uk

FAVOURITE MOVIE SOUNDTRACK SONG

"Run Through The Jungle by CCR, from Tropic Thunder. Dexter and I are both big Creedence fans, and as a band we've watched Tropic Thunder close to a hundred times. Great song and a great movie."

FAVOURITE SAD SONG

"Hurt as done by Johnny Cash. Johnny's stripped down version of this Nine Inch Nails song really gives it a haunting quality and shows what a great songwriter Trent Reznor is."

FAVOURITE SONG FROM YOUR CHILDHOOD

"Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev. My parents bought this record for me and my siblings when we were young. I still find myself whistling parts of it from time to time."

FAVOURITE CLUB ANTHEM

"Beat On The Brat by the Ramones (see what I did there?)"

FAVOURITE SONG THAT NO ONE ELSE HAS HEARD OF

"Henderson Street by Detox. I'm lucky enough to have seen this band play at Fender's Ballroom in Long Beach. I loved this whole record but, outside of Southern California, no one seems to know who Detox are."

FAVOURITE WEDDING SONG

"Total Eclipse Of The Heart by The Dan Band (as seen in the movie Old School). This is just a funny version of a really cheesy song. The movie Old School is also a favourite on the tour bus."

FAVOURITE CURRENT SONG

"Blood, Lies, Alibis by Red Devil Squadron. This is just a song I like from a local band in Orange County. Pretty fun guitar work for a punk song."

FAVOURITE LYRIC FROM A SONG

"'Finish up your drink and go home' from Merican by the Descendents. I love the Descendents and this song is just one reason why. It’s about being proud of your country without being an idiot about it."

FAVOURITE ONE HIT WONDER

"Anyone remember the band One Hit Wonder on Nitro records? I'm just asking."

FAVOURITE SONG FROM YOUR OWN MUSIC

"This pick changes from day to day. Today's pick would be Secrets From The Underground. Yesterday's was Living in Chaos. Go figure."
