Streets fans: The Manor might just be your new favourite band

The South London trio are about to break

Streets fans: The Manor might just be your new favourite band
08 June 2018

It’s a great time to be a Streets fan.

Mike Skinner surprised us all last year when he announced the return of his Streets moniker, complete with new tracks and ‘The Darker The Shadow The Brighter The Light’ tour, which was rapturously received by fans in April.

It was a welcome reminder of the sheer strength of The Streets’ back catalogue - you can see our ranking of every Streets single right here - and so well did the comeback go down that another run of dates for 2019 was announced shortly afterwards.

Now, though, there’s another reason to make sure you get down to those gigs, because support will come from one of the most hotly-tipped bands around: The Manor.

Comprised of South London trio Danny Graft, Scotty Stacks and Jonny Dutch, The Manor have paid their dues, releasing debut mixtape Welcome To The Manor back in 2011 and building a loyal fanbase over the next few years.

Being a new act is a difficult thing, struggling to make ends meet while you wait for that big break to come - a point referenced by a subsequent release Free Mixtapes Don’t Pay The Rent - and in 2014 the band called it a day and released a ‘farewell’ album When Don’t Do What We Did in 2015.

As is often the way, the second you think it’s all over, it all happens, and the release gained them so much acclaim that they decided to carry on.

It feels like their sound - a truly infectious mix of UKG, grime, soul and rap whilst simultaneously being none of them - was ahead of its time, and in a post-Stormzy-winning-BRIT-awards era, The Manor are now perfectly positioned to be a huge mainstream act.

Their genre-hopping is reminiscent of The Streets’ output and it comes as no surprise to discover Mike Skinner is a fan. Indeed, with the recent Streets shows being massive parties for the crowd, he’s probably just as much of a fan as their approach to enjoying themselves as he is to their music.

They explain:

“A Manor headline show has become way more than just a gig over the years. The whole day and night of a show has become an experience that starts with the pre drink in the pubs surrounding the venue and ends half way through the next day at one of our ‘sesh’ after parties.

“This summer we’ll be taking our mad nights on the road to all the festivals and then a UK tour in October - we’ve also had the honour of announcing recently that early next year we’ll be teaming up with our hero Mike Skinner and the streets on their UK tour as chief support.”

“Growing up, Skinner was our big brother telling us all about girls and raving, now he’s bringing us out to the raves with him”

Mike Skinner isn’t their only celebrity fan, though; in April they sold out the Kentish Town Forum in London and saw Example, P Money, Little Dee show up for cameos, as this exclusive behind-the-scenes video shows.

So, in conclusion: going to see The Streets next year? Get there early. Not going to see The Streets next year? Get to a Manor show anyway.

Sorted? Sorted.
