Taylor Swift's new single samples the most hilarious, unexpected source

Now you know why it sounds so familiar

Taylor Swift's new single samples the most hilarious, unexpected source

So, after deleting everything on her social media, uploading a few snake videos and an edgy, gothic album cover, Taylor Swift has finally released her debut single from the upcoming Reputation, ‘Look What You Made Me Do’.

It is… very different to anything she’s done before, and getting mixed reviews. The lyrics are almost certainly an attack on Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, but also maybe everyone else in the world?

At one point the song cuts to a phone call, with Taylor saying: “Sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, because she’s dead,” so that’s the kind of vibe we’re going with here.

If you’ve not heard it yet, then oh, you will, but here it is if you fancy a listen:

While people can’t agree on whether the song is actually good or not, what everyone seems to be agreeing on is that the chorus sounds very familiar. It sounds, somehow, like 1992 Right Said Fred hit ‘I’m Too Sexy’...

And look, if you put the two songs right next to each other, you can see, the chorus is like, exactly the same.

But there’s actually a very good reason for it. See, Taylor isn’t thieving from Right Said Fred, they’re credited as writers on the track. This is a very deliberate ‘sampling’, which is hilarious. I have no idea who came up with this idea, but I’m glad they did.

The band themselves are clearly big fans of the track, not least because its bound to make them an absolute shit-ton of money.

Not only will they make $$$ off the royalties, it wouldn’t be all that surprising if ‘I’m Too Sexy’ enjoyed a little foray back into the charts, too.

Get ready to hear that melody several hundred times over the next few weeks. Taylor’s about to take up where Ed Sheeran left off.
