It's a song most diplomatically described as 'a grower', but it looks like Sam Smith is going to create chart history by singing the first-ever Bond theme to hit the number spot on the UK singles chart.

Writing's On The Wall is currently selling double that of the second-placed record, What Do You Mean? by Justin Bieber, which means it's almost guaranteed to hit the top when the chart is revealed on Friday. Opinion on the song was divided - with many comparing it unfavourably to Michael Jackson's festive chart-topper Earth Song - but it looks like either the public have spoken, or anticipation for SPECTRE is so high that people are buying it regardless.

But never mind all that - what we can't believe is that there's never been a Bond number one before. Astonishing.
