Celebrate the release of Idris Elba’s Yardie with an NTS Radio show of influential roots, reggae and dancehall tracks

NTS have drastically improved your weekend listening with a special show to celebrate the release of Idris Elba’s new film Yardie
24 August 2018

The tale of a young man trying to find his way in the world as he arrives in London from Jamaica in the Eighties, Yardie is absolutely packed with excellent music from the period. The story, based on the bestselling novel by Victor Headley, unfolds as Caribbean influence on the capital’s music scene takes hold.

To reflect this, our friends at NTS Radio will be paying homage with the bespoke soundscape Yardie: The Righteous And The Damned, featuring deep cuts from the likes of Dennis Brown, Burning Spear and The Abyssinians, alongside cut-ups of live recordings from early Eighties sound-system tapes from Aces International, Sir Coxsone Outernational and Saxon Studio.

Presented by Luke Owen of blues and gospel radio show and record label Death Is Not The End, the show is guaranteed to appeal to anyone with an interest in Caribbean culture and, like everything NTS touches, shuns obvious selections in favour of diamond-in-the-rough classics.

Yardie is in cinemas 31 August. Find out more here
