The Lonely Island are set to play their first ever live gig

But will it be on a boat?

Before Andy Samberg was Jake Peralta on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, he was one third of comedy trio The Lonely Island.

Samberg, along with bandmates Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, became known for comedy songs such as ‘I’m On a Boat’ (featuring T-Pain), ‘Dick in a Box’ (featuring Justin Timberlake) and ‘Shy Ronnie 2: Ronnie & Clyde’ (featuring Rihanna).

When you look at the long list of features (they’ve also collaborated with Nicki Minaj, Julian Casablancas, Akon and more), you might think they’re a big-ticket band with hard-hitting, serious songs.

Wrong.

In fact, they have never even performed a proper gig as a three-piece – their entire existence is limited to online videos and Saturday Night Live skits – but that’s about to change.

The Lonely Island have been announced on the bill for Comedy Central’s ‘Clusterfest’ festival, alongside The Daily Show’s current host Trevor Noah and his predecessor Jon Stewart.

While the bill is comedy-heavy – Amy Schumer and Tiffany Haddish are among the others lined up to appear – there will also be music from Salt-N-Pepa and Third Eye Blind.

The eagle-eyed among you will know it’s not quite the first on-stage performance from the Lonely Island – they made a brief appearance at the Emmys in 2011 – but this will be a lot bigger.

Looking through the rest of the line-up, there aren’t too many obvious contenders when it comes to figuring out who might join The Lonely Island on stage.

However, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple of unannounced special guests make an appearance.

In addition to the main comedy and music acts, Clusterfest will involve a real-life version of Paddy’s Pub from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, plus other similar attractions.

It takes place in San Francisco, USA, on 1-3 June.

Inevitably, news of the gig led to calls for more dates elsewhere in the world, and who are we to stand in their way?
