Linkin Park’s Joe Hahn’s Ultimate Playlist

Nick Cave, RZA and Rob Zombie have a lot more in common than simply excellent names.

They're three examples of mainstream musical artists to eschew conventional wisdom - that being that musicians work better in front of the camera than behind it - and gain critical acclaim in the film world.

It’s a career path currently being followed by Linkin Park’s Joe Hahn, whose debut feature film, Mall, is now available to stream on Netflix. The dark thriller shows that Hahn has some serious skills as a filmmaker - but don’t worry, he’s not leaving his band just yet.

With new album The Hunting Party still wowing audiences and Linkin Park announcing a handful of tour dates in Europe this summer, Hahn has a busy few months of music ahead of him.

We caught up with the disc spinner and asked him for his Ultimate Playlist. Enjoy.

Mall, directed by Joe Hahn, is now available from Netflix (USA right now, watch this space for UK); Linkin Park have announced a handful of European dates this summer

FAVOURITE CLUB ANTHEM

"I’ll get down to anything by The Prodigy. Give me something from Fat of the Land. Let's go with Breathe, it's so good for any club occasion. They've got a new record out soon - I heard one song, which got me pretty excited. I can’t wait to hear the rest."

FAVOURITE CURRENT SONG

"What’s current right now? Uptown Funk was good at the time. I think we have to look at Taylor Swift, Shake It Off, that’s been around for a while but it hasn’t lost any of its charm. It’s a good song. She’s moved from country to pop brilliantly. Reimagining yourself as an artist can be remodelling a house, you’ve got to have good foundations, and she has. Though a strong song is a strong song."

FAVOURITE SONG FROM YOUR CHILDHOOD

"NWA was my pop growing up, so I’d love to say a song by those guys. But I’m going to go with the biggest respective hits for Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer – you can choose between them. I might have even rocked the parachute pants look when I was in elementary school."
