Ian Curtis’ House Up For Sale

It's a piece of music history, and it's available for an extremely reasonable price.

77 Barton Street in Macclesfield, the former home of legendary Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis is up for sale on Rightmove.

The 2 bedroom terraced house is described as a "character cottage, [offering] spacious accommodation with two reception rooms, a good size kitchen and a shared courtyard garden". The asking price is £115,000, with a local Macclesfield estate agent handling the sale - the singer's kitchen table was sold at auction in November 2013 for £8,400, so this seems like a bit of a bargain.

It does, of course, come with a rather macabre side to it, as Curtis committed suicide at the age of just 23 in the kitchen of the property, shortly before the band were due to undertake their first US tour in 1980. It was used for location shots in the 2007 Joy Division biopic Control and remains a place of pilgrimage for fans of the hugely influential band.

It was previously on the market in 2002, for an asking price of £64,950.
