Rick Astley and the Foo Fighters just nailed the best rickroll of all time

Like a kitten reciting Keats, a dog explaining the finer points of nuclear theory and Donald Trump saying something intelligent, there are some things in life that you just don’t expect to ever actually see happen.

Well brace yourselves, the internet, because you are about to witness two such things occur within the space of just four minutes.

Number one: Rick Astley screaming ‘COME ON YOU MOTHERFUCKERS’ to a crowd at Japan’s Summer Sonic Festival.

Number two: Rick Astley then performing a version of ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ with the Foo Fighters that incorporates elements of Nirvana track ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’.

Here it is, in all its glory:

It’s actually… really quite good isn’t it?

Best bit: Rick’s ‘ow!’ at 2:48. Second best bit, ‘I’m feeling fucking marvellous!’ at 3:09.

“This is fuckin’ crazy,” said Dave Grohl, not inaccurately, adding, “I just met him two minutes ago.” Despite making the most recent of acquaintances, Dave and the boys absolutely nailed the backing while Rick smashed it up top.

Dave Grohl, nicest man in rock, Rick Astley, nicest man in pop. But put them together and what do you get? Absolute badassery. Well done lads.
