Of all the gross-out, gory horror films, The Human Centipede trilogy is up there among the grossest and most gory ever made.
The films, from Dutch director Tom Six, tell the story of a twisted German surgeon who surgically conjoins people together – mouth to anus – forming a “human centipede.” But you already knew that, didn’t you.
And for his next film, called The Onania Club, Six is promising that it’ll be “one of the most vile, inhumane movie experiences of all time”. I like the sound of this already.
The 44-year-old director told Indie Wire that the film, which will be set in Hollywood, California, will be a psychological thriller that features “mostly strong female characters” and will “definitely pass the Bechdel test with flying colours”.
The female-led cast includes Jessica Morris, Darcy DeMoss, Deborah Twiss, Karen Strassman, and Flo Lawrence.
A big theme of the film will be masturbation, as shown by the film’s tagline “Come and see, see and come.” The word ‘onania’ is also an archaic term for masturbation.
Six, who never shies from controversy, spoke about his films on Twitter recently, saying: “My movies are vile because life is vile. Happy endings only exist in Amsterdam massage parlors.”
This comes just days after another controversial film, Lars Von Trier’s The House That Jack Built, prompted a walkout at Cannes film festival.
Variety’s Ramin Setoodeh reported that more than 100 people left the cinema early because of the film’s “disgusting” content.
Is there still room for these sorts of shockingly violent and twisted films in 2018? We’ll find out when The Onania Club is released later this year.
