We're getting a sequel to 'Zombieland', and the everyone is returning

It’ll mark the tenth anniversary of the original film

Are there too many zombie films? Yes. Are there too many Zombieland films? No. Which means that today’s news is demonstrably good, because they’ve announced a Zombieland sequel, and the entire original cast will be returning. Like, the main ones anyway - to get the entire cast, all the zombies, extras and even the people that died, would be an undertaking of frankly ludicrous proportions.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, writers of the original film, were interviewed by Vulture and spoke of their plans for the sequel:

“We’re going on the tenth anniversary of Zombieland. Zombieland came out October of 2009. We don’t know what you get someone for their tenth anniversary, but it may be a Zombieland 2. The hope is that we’re shooting that thing early 2019 for an October of ’19 release. With the original cast, by the way.

“We are sitting on information that we can’t entirely share at this moment, but we can just say we think fans of Zombieland who have been hoping for a Zombieland 2, that we will grant their wish very, very soon.”

This has already been attempted once before, in the form of an Amazon series, but that didn’t even get past a pilot episode thanks to less-than-glowing reviews. Watch the opening scene of that below (must have gone downhill pretty quickly, because it ain’t that bad):

Either way, they’ve brushed that under the carpet and are steaming ahead with a proper full-length film now. It’s a surprise it’s taken so long, what with the original movie making a bang to the tune of $102.4 million at the box office, on a measly $23.6 million budget. Obviously, this being a sequel, the budget will go up a smidge, but then hopefully the budget will, too. That’s how sequels work, right?

It’s either that or it will all be a complete disaster, but then: that’s how sequels work, right?
