Would this 'white focused' Straight Outta Compton trailer have got the film an Oscar nod?

One brave manager fights the system

Would this 'white focused' Straight Outta Compton trailer have got the film an Oscar nod?

While Chris Rock's opening monologue tackled the issue head-on, there was no doubt that there was something of a shadow hanging over the 88th Academy Awards, with accusations of racism dogging the build-up.

Accompanied by an #oscarssowhite hashtag, it focused on the observation that all 20 of the nominees for the acting awards were- for the second year running - exclusively white, a pretty staggering decision given there were so many excellent performances by actors outside of this group in the past year to choose from.

Amongst them, the excellent Straight Outta Compton, which featured a host of great performances by black actors with a black director in charge, received just one nomination - for Best Original Screenplay (which it didn't win).

But what could they have done differently to gain the attention of the Academy? Well, have it focus on the white guy of course.

This absolutely brilliant re-edit by Super Deluxe shows exactly how they could have done it. It's almost too good for words. And it would have swept the board at the Oscars for sure, which in itself is an absolute tragedy.

Watch Paul Giamatti's Jerry Heller take a stand and fight the system to change the world (with the help of a few other guys).
