Toy Story 4 Is Happening

Like Grease 2, it's a sequel that no one really asked for. But, like Mission Impossible 4, could it actually be good?

Pixar have announced that the much-loved trilogy Toy Story is to get another installment, a hugely surprising move given the love and critical praise heaped on the third film, which came out in 2010. It tied up events so perfectly that it lead to renowned film critic Mark Kermode declaring it the greatest trilogy ever made.

Nonetheless, Toy Story 4 is happening, with John Lasseter again directing, along with Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter and Lee Unkrich.

Lasseter has said that, "we don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before. Toy Story 3 ended Woody and Buzz’s story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie - and I wanted to direct it myself."

While it's a positive move that the original director is still on board, his last directed movie was Cars 2, which wasn't a huge success. However, the rest of the team is strong, with Rashida Jones and Will McCormack on board to write, with Galyn Susman producing.

It'll be just under three years until we find out whether it's a hit or miss: the release date is in for June 16th 2017.
