Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the People’s Champion, Hollywood’s highest earner and social media’s hardest working man, has given the world its first look at Hobbs & Shaw, the ever-so-bald Fast & Furious spin-off that will see him and Jason Statham punch loads of people in the head.

And you know what? He’s not even in it. He doesn’t arrive on set here in London for another fortnight.

Jason Statham is there, though, along with director David Leitch (who co-directed John Wick and single-handedly helmed Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2) and a big-ass fancy car.

It’s pretty fun that Johnson refers to Jason Statham as “my partner in heavy crime & fun”. Is there a person on Earth who wouldn’t want The Rock to call them that?

The very existence of the film is a sore point in some circles, and came after some on-set beef between Johnson and “candy ass” Vin Diesel while making The Fate Of The Furious. Other stars got involved, with Tyrese Gibson in particular being fairly livid that the spin-off was happening.

How events both on- and off-screen will effect the franchise going forward is unclear at the moment. Fast & Furious 9 and 10 are currently scheduled to come out in 2020 and 2021, although other than Jordana Brewster signing on for the ninth, no cast details have been announced.

Hobbs & Shaw (potential tagline: It never Dwaynes but it Shaws), also starring Idris Elba, is out on August 2nd 2019 and definitely features a bit where someone gets something really massive smashed over their head.
