Lose your mind at the end of The OA, left with a hankering for more? Robert Redford is here to blow your noggin in a new death-based Netflix film to satisfy your appetite.

While OA and her imprisoned friends were being forced to die and come back, The Discovery sees people trying to kill themselves intentionally to reach the other side.

Because the other side has been proven to exist. Redford plays a doctor who makes the biggest scientific discovery of all time: empirical proof that the afterlife is real.

As a result suicide rates around the world spike as people kill themselves to reach the world beyond.

Caught in this dystopian world, we live vicariously through a couple (played by Jason Segel and Rooney Mara, who are trying to deal with tragic pasts and the world changing around them as people keep trying to top themselves.

The film’s synopsis describes it as:

“A love story set in a world where the afterlife has been scientifically proven, and as a result millions of people start taking their own lives to “get there.”

Except there may be evil ghosts in said afterlife, which might cause some problems.

The trailer is accompanied by the music of Roy Orbison’s Only the Lonely, before a glitch signals the beginning of darker times – Segel and Mara disposing of a body, Mara walking into dark and dangerous waters (literally) and obligatory experimental equipment and terrified subjects.
