What do Tom Hardy, Kristen Stewart and James McAvoy all have in common?

Well, aside from being Hollywood megastars, they’re all past winners of the coveted EE Rising Star Award, a sure-fire indicator of impending A-list status. Now in its 13th year, the award is dedicated to recognising emerging acting talent, and is the only accolade at the EE BAFTAs voted for by you.

This year’s nominees are Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name), Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out), Josh O’Connor (God’s Own Country), Florence Pugh (Lady Macbeth) and Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok).

To cast your vote for the 2018 EE Rising Star, visit ee.co.uk/BAFTA and select your favourite performer before 14 February. The winner will be announced at the EE British Academy Film Awards on 18 February.

ShortList will also be hosting screenings of all five nominees’ films in the weeks leading up to the awards in February so keep a look out.

Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name)

2017 was a big year for former Homeland star Chalomet, who took on major roles in two critically-acclaimed dramas, Ladybird and Call Me By Your Name. 2018 looks just as promising, with his new film, a period western called Hostiles, in cinemas now.

Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out)

A recognisable face from his TV work on the likes of Skins, Psychoville and Black Mirror, Kaluuya shot to fame after taking the lead role in horror-satire film, Get Out. Next up is an introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to a supporting role in Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther.

Josh O’Connor (God’s Own Country)

Having cut his teeth on the likes of The Riot Club and Florence Foster Jenkins, 2017 saw O’Connor star in coming-of-age saga God’s Own Country. Keep an eye out for him on the small screen next – following on from TV appearances in Ripper Street and Peaky Blinders, O’Connor reprises his role in The Durrells for the third season of the ITV drama.

Florence Pugh (Lady Macbeth)

The breakout star of award-winning Shakespeare rework Lady Macbeth, Pugh is now venturing into blockbuster territory with a role in action thriller The Commuter. Small-screen stardom is set to follow, with the British actress soon to join Chris Pine and Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Netflix’s upcoming period drama, Outlaw King.

Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok)

Having stunned Hollywood in the incendiary Dear White People, Thompson followed up her performance with other equally eye-catching parts in the likes of Selma, Creed and the HBO drama Westworld. Last year saw her filling cinemas in Thor: Ragnarok, where she starred alongside Chris Hemsworth as the fearsome Valkyrie in one of the highest-grossing films of the year.
