Angry Birds, remember it?

The only app worth furiously swiping the screen at before Tinder? The game which made you miss two train stops for and were late for that meeting because you had to beat your mate’s high score? Well, you’d better get ready to hear all about it again, because now there’s a bloody movie.

Few would have predicted that the cathartic act of flinging furious fowl across smartphone screens would one day result in a major animated movie featuring major Hollywood talent including Jason Sudeikis, Danny McBride, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad, AKA Olef from Frozen himself. Least not the cast themselves, but it’s happened, and here’s the first trailer.

Produced by both Sony Pictures and the game’s founders Rovio Entertainment, the studios will be hoping it replicate the success of mega hit The Lego Movie, which of course took lifeless objects, A-list names, first-rate animation, and somehow forged an interesting plot from it all.

And if they're looking at the bar set by other game-to-film adaps, it can't be any worse than Super Mario Bros.

Angry Birds The Movie lands in cinemas from May 2016
