The 'FIFA Movie' Trailer
20 May 2014

Oh dear. Just when you thought Sepp Blatter couldn't get any more despicable, now comes a trailer of an overblown, self-indulgent film starring none other than Tim Roth as the bungling FIFA honcho.

Currently being marketed at Cannes, United Passions, a shouty drama covering the history of FIFA and its formation of the World Cup (talk about well-timed), reportedly cost £19m to make, with £16m of that straight out of the pockets of FIFA itself.

Which could well explain its star power - Gerard Depardieu as Jules Rimet, Sam Neil as Joao Havelange (the 7th President of FIFA, if you’re wondering) - the sort of names you’d expect to be first on any acting team sheet.

And if we're continuing the football metaphors, judging by the sheer cheese-factor of this film, judges at Cannes can breathe easy, winning the Ballon d'Or of the film world looks some way off.
