The 6 worst movie explosions ever
06 April 2014

Criticise Michael Bay all you like but damn, that guy knows how to make things blow up convincingly.

But not everyone possesses this rather underrated skill, as shown in these exceptionally ridiculous clips. From disastrously low budgets to utterly nonsensical lapses in logic, here are the six least believable movie explosions ever.

Let us know if we've missed off your favourite.

Silent Night Deadly Night 2

What, you mean you've never seen the sequel to Christmas-based slasher Silent Night Deadly Night? Crazy talk. Well this short clip gives you an idea of what to expect. Namely, a weak attempt at an evil laugh an an utterly inexplicable exploding car. You're on Amazon already, aren't you?

The Crawlers aka Troll 3

Like you, we were also unaware that the ground-breakingly awful Troll 2 had a sequel. Although, like that legendary film, this was also totally unconnected to the film that came before it and was merely renamed Troll 3 as a cash-in. This scene shows some of the, ahem, budget limitations that the cast had to deal with. Make sure you pause at 0:08 for the gold.

Casino Royale

With the introduction of Daniel Craig as the new Bond, it was a gritty goodbye to the cheese and far-fetched antics of what we typically associated with 007. Oh but then this happened. After a surprisingly intense Bourne-esque parkour chase, a construction worker falls to the ground, followed by his gas cannisters. This then caused a huge explosion. Which, ermmm yeah, doesn't really make much sense...

Jaws: The Revenge

Weirdly, this isn't the dumbest part of the fourth Jaws film. That would be the fact that a shark deliberately kills off Roy Scheider's son out of revenge before following his wife around the world. Because, you know, it's a shark. But still, this scene is high up there. Shark fact according to Jaws: The Revenge: if you skewer a shark with a bowsprit, it will explode.

Van Helsing

A film that wouldn't seem out of place in any list involving the word "worst", this failed franchise-starter reached a lowpoint in this particularly awful scene. After the least convincing 19th century take on the Speed bus jump ever attempted, we see a wooden horse-drawn carriage crash and then turn into a fiery nail bomb. Because, well, people needed to be woken up at this point.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

The otherwise legendary Hugh Jackman crops up again in this somewhat overegged walk away from an explosion. It makes sense only if your entire life has been spent watching action movies and not being in actual reality.
