We imagine that after Hollywood comes a knocking and makes a film of our colourful life – ah, the women; the glory; the highs; the lows; the highs; the fame; the fortune – there might be the odd scene that we might take objection to.
However, while we bask in the whisky-soaked comfort of old age, we hope our friends aren’t too miffed with the finished product, unlike Margaret Thatcher’s nearest and dearest.
It can’t have escaped your attention that the Meryl Streep-starring Thatcher biopic, The Iron Lady, will hit multiplexes early next year; well, having seen an early screening of the film, associates of the former PM have branded the adaptation ‘insulting’.
Apparently, Thatcher is portrayed as a ‘granny going mad’. She constantly hallucinates, has nightmares about the miners’ strike and the Falklands War, and believes her late husband Denis is still alive. In one scene, Denis, played by Jim Broadbent, sports a pink turban and performs a strange Monty Python-esque walk while listening to loud music.
Sounds like a barrel of laughs to us. Unlike her 11 years in power. Oh, a bit of politics.
