That incredible new 'Thor: Ragnarok' trailer is a record-breaker
12 April 2017

Just when you thought superhero fatigue was setting in again, BAM, Thor and an armoured-up Hulk going at it in an arena. And we’re back in the game.

The marvellous new teaser trailer for ThorRagnarok has become Marvel’s most-watched trailer in a 24-hour period. Ever. To put that in context, the staggering 136 million views it received in its first day comfortably eclipses trailers for all previous MCU movies in the same period. Another high performer, Captain America: Civil War, had 94 million.

But it gets better for the handsome Asgardian. The Ragnarok trailer has also proved more popular than any of Disney’s ever-swelling empire of brands in the timeframe recorded. More than anything Pixar have done. More than modern animated classics like Frozen and Moana. More than Star Wars. The previous record-holder was the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, but Thor takes his hammer to that film’s pathetic 127.6 million. Small fry. It’s worth bearing in mind that Marvel’s latest can’t touch the movie reboot of Stephen King’s It, though, which still holds the world record at 197 million views.

Ragnarok sees Chris Hemsworth once again take up the role of Thor, and the action-heavy trailer – set to Led Zeppelin’s "Immigrant Song", always a good start – culminates in the Norse god finding himself in a gladiatorial stadium with fellow Avenger, or “friend from work”, The Incredible Hulk. The stats suggest you’ve already watched it, but just in case...

Thor: Ragnarok will be released in the UK on 27 October.
