Arnie says the new 'Terminator' movie will be a "whole new movie"
26 October 2017

So yeah, the last Terminator movie wasnt great, was it? Good cast, promising director, Arnie’s return, but then… just, nothing. I’ve seen it and I really struggle to remember a single part of it, if I’m honest. Ask me about the film, and I can recall nothing - that’s a bad sign, because ask me about Terminator 2 and I’ll recite the entire script for you.

Anyway, this is Hollywood, and regardless of how much a franchise has been stamped into the ground, they’ll resurrect it and flog it to kingdom come - that’s the way it works. And that’s exactly what happened to the Terminator franchise - two good films, one OK one, then let’s not talk about the others, basically. Regardless, it’s coming back, with Arnie (obviously), James Cameron (surprisingly) and Linda Hamilton (mega surprisingly) back on board.

And supposedly they’re going back to basics with this sixth one. Speaking with Business Insider, the Austrian Oak (is that the world’s greatest nickname? Yes) said:

“I think James Cameron and Tim Miller came up with a concept where they can continue on with the T-800 but make a whole new movie.

“What they are doing now with this one is basically to just take a few very basic characters, like Linda Hamilton’s character and my character, and dismiss everything else.”

This is promising - what made the first two so good was that they were relatively simple - they were chase movies at their heart. Everything got too complicated as the franchise wore on. Too many robots, too much plot, not enough Arnie; if we boil it down.

He continued:

“The sixth Terminator movie is definitely going to ignore Terminator Genisys.

“And there is a high probability that Terminator 3 and Salvation will be ignored too if this is a Terminator 2: Judgement Day sequel, as cited of late.”

So they’re picking up where the second one left off, basically. I mean, I’m not the biggest fan of franchises ‘ignoring’ sequels, but sometimes these things have to be done - that’s the way the cyborg cookie crumbles, ain’t it?

The movie, directed by Deadpool’s Tim Miller, doesn’t have a release date yet, but expect to see it in the next couple of years or so. They can’t leave it too late - there is no time limit on making money. MAKE IT NOW, DRINK THAT DOUGH.
