Shaft Is Getting A Reboot

Shaft Is Getting A Reboot
19 February 2015

Hollywood loves nothing more than trying out fresh new ideas and really going 'out there' with its release schedule. Oh hang on, no that's not right.

The Wrap is reporting that a second remake of the classic 1971 blaxploitation movie Shaft is in the works after New Line acquired the rights to the franchise, with John Davis - fresh from working on Guy Ritchie's The Man From U.N.C.L.E - producing.

There were two sequels to the original film, which starred Richard Roundtree as the charismatic detective John Shaft: Shaft's Big Score in 1972 and Shaft in Africa in 1973, before it was taken to television. The movie was rebooted in 2000, with Samuel L. Jackson playing his nephew - technically making it a sequel.

It's unclear whether the new film will be a further 'sequel', or a true reboot; either way Jackson is not on board, and the project is described as being in its "early days".

But any excuse to dig this out and get our groove on.
