Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film is gathering pace, and one of the biggest cast rumours has been confirmed by studio Sony Pictures.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which focuses on the real-life murder case in which actress Sharon Tate was killed by members of the Manson Family, will be Tarantino’s first with Sony after he ended his relationship with the Weinstein Company.

The film is likely to be released in 2019, with early rumours suggesting the director had entered talks with Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lawrence and Margot Robbie over potential roles.

And now one of that trio has been confirmed, alongside another A-lister who will be working with Tarantino for a second time.

Inglourious Basterds star Pitt will take one of the lead roles alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, who last worked with Tarantino on Django Unchained.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tarantino has described Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as “a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood.

“I’ve been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old,” the director said.

DiCaprio and Pitt will play a TV actor and his stunt double, respectively, with DiCaprio’s character Rick Dalton living next door to Sharon Tate.

Tate, who was married to director Roman Polanski, was killed by members of the Manson Family when she was aged just 26.

No announcement has been made with regards to who will play the Hollywood actress, though Lawrence and Robbie have both been mentioned in connection with the project.

With DiCaprio and Pitt both on board, we can expect more cast announcements before filming begins later this year.
