New Star Wars trailer shines a light on Finn

Okay, this is getting silly now. How much film have they got left?

New Star Wars trailer shines a light on Finn
19 November 2015

Okay, this is getting silly now.

We wept with joy over the first trailer (which arrived nearly a year ago), gargled like Chewie upon the arrival of the second, picking through all subsequent footage with an exacting, spoiler-revealing eye

But now we're on to our fifth TV spot - a thirty second exposition on John Boyega's Finn, the Stormtrooper turned freedom-fighting Force user. And we're not sure we want to see any more.

As you're here, you're probably looking to further your own The Force Awakens gluttony, so here are the highlights of the above footage:

  • Finn has seen some sh*t. Dark stuff. Probably a reference to the Starkiller Base, the vast Death Star successor used to blow up solar systems. People need to run away from it.
  • There's more footage of the Stormtrooper with an electrostaff - a weapon capable of going toe-to-toe with a Jedi's lightsaber, without the "cut through anything" sophistication. They first appeared Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, used by General Grievous' robotic minions, but we'll let you off if you erased that horror from your memory.
  • If we've learnt anything from the trailers so far, it's that there'll be a lot of parallels with the original 1977's Star Wars - furthered by Finn's "whoop" of delight in the Millennium Falcon's gun turret. It's another big hint that he'll by assuming a similar role to Luke in the first film - a young kid, strong in the Force, but no idea what's going on.

With less than a month before the film arrives, we might stop watching these from now on... but we're guessing we might see some other character-focused trailers in coming days. We won't blame you if you don't join us in dissecting them.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrives on 17 December
