Ludicrous first trailer for Point Break remake

Surfing. Skydiving. Homoerotic glares. Questionable script.

You guessed it: the first trailer for the Point Break remake has finally arrived.

Once slated to have Gerard Butler star before he dropped out (no word on whether this involved a parachute), the reboot sees Luke Bracey taking on Keanu Reeves’ classic role as FBI agent Johnny Utah and Edgar Ramirez playing the criminal mastermind Bhodi, once played by Patrick Swayze, whose group of nonconformist bank robbers is infiltrated by Utah.

Directed by newcomer Ericson Core and scripted by Kurt Wimmer - a man no stranger to reboots having written 2012’s Total Recall - the script goes even more extreme than the 1991 original. And by that we mean the surfer gangs have been replace by a more noughties, Go-Pro era crew of extreme sportsmen who might just be the flashiest thieves since Ocean's Eleven.

Kathryn Bigelow's 1991 surfer gang crime caper remains the Oscar winning director’s most profitable film, and yet, thanks in part to the ludicrousness of the film, it still enjoys a real cult status among film fans. For this reason we're not entirely sure this can ever live up to the first one, but when you've got a trailer this ridiculous there's always hope.

Surf's up. Sort of.
