It's been 13 years since the hapless football manager Mike Bassett appeared on our screens yet, judging by England's recent performances, he's just as relevant as ever.

Which is why director Steve Barron is bringing the cult figure back, for Mike Bassett: Interim Manager and launching a Kickstarter to help fund the movie. It's aiming to raise £250,000 before November 21st, with backers receiving credits, shout-outs, posters, t-shirts, screenings, set tours and all the rest; yes, for £2,500 you could get to sit in the dugout with Mike himself. The original movie saw Bassett manage Norwich City and England, before a subsequent 2005 TV series saw it all go wrong, with Mike ending up managing the fictional Wirral County in the basement division.

Both Ricky Tomlinson and Bradley Walsh have agreed to reprise their original roles of Bassett and his assistant Dave Dodds respectively, with Til Schweiger (Inglorious Basterds) in advanced negotations to appear as Jorgen Mannstein, a character who is managing England with great success - and then brings Bassett in as his number two.

Head over to the Kickstarter page to get involved and watch the promo video before for more information. Will Mike have embraced false 9s, tiki-taka, diamond formations or 3-5-2? We suspect not.
